ABOUT
The story behind Assembly Required
Who writes this
Assembly Required is written by a Colorado resident who believes that state legislation affects daily life more than most people realize — and that understanding it shouldn’t require a law degree or a political science background.
Every week, we dig into committee hearings, floor votes, and fiscal impact statements so you don’t have to. Then we translate it all into plain language and deliver it to your inbox on Wednesday morning.
Why this exists
Colorado has excellent political journalists, but most coverage is written for people who already follow politics closely. If you’re a busy parent, a small business owner, or just someone who wants to know what’s happening under the Gold Dome without wading through jargon and horse-race coverage — there wasn’t much out there for you.
Assembly Required fills that gap. We cover what matters, skip what doesn’t, and always answer the question: “So what does this mean for me?”
Our editorial approach
Nonpartisan by design. We present both sides of every bill. Supporters say X, critics argue Y. You decide how you feel about it.
Plain language, not dumbed down. We don’t sacrifice accuracy for simplicity. We translate legislative jargon into language anyone can follow — without leaving out the important details.
Practical above all. Every bill gets the “so what?” treatment. We connect legislation to your daily life, your business, and your community.
OUR SIGNATURE FEATURE
The Opportunity Signal
In every issue, we flag business opportunities emerging from new legislation. A new licensing framework, a tax credit, a regulatory change that opens a market — if there’s an opportunity hiding in a bill, we’ll find it and tell you about it before most people even know it exists.
